This poem has been written by my very good friend Medihah.

True Students of Quran

The Prophet (saw) came with guidance for you and I,
So why is it we are allowing it to slip by?
Each day hearing Quran recited in the classroom,
Yet many faces are overshadowed with gloom.
There are many out there in the world,
To them the Quran is something unheard.

Harboring high hopes and dreams,
Yet we are ourselves struggling to grip the seams.
The knowledge won’t come out the books straight into our heart,
We must work hard to give it a quick start.
It is said what you love is easy to learn,
So what is it exactly for which our hearts yearn?

Gems and jewels to add to our decorated house,
A flashy car along with a millionaire spouse.
So where is it the Quran to fit in,
When there is no room for it from within?
This world is nothing but temporary wealth,
Yet over it we neglect our spiritual health.
Our souls whither and die of hunger,
Yet our physical bodies day by day grow stronger.

Each day we ask ourselves: Why won’t the Qur’an in my heart firmly stay?
But how can it when we are distracted in class each day.
Many giggling and chatting to one another,
While others pass notes from one to the other.
Vandalizing benches and others books,
Exchanging funny faces and amused looks.
A frequent flow of bathroom breaks,
Just a little self-control is all it takes.

The Quran has yet to touch our hearts,
Although we have studied 26 of its 30 parts.
Is it that our hearts are hard?
Or have they been temporarily barred?
The solution is to remember Quran is an emblem,
Each day we come and collect another gem.
Apply these to your daily lives and love what you learn,
In no time inshallah your hearts for the Quran will yearn.
Remember this divine book is Al Furqan,
So let us establish it in our hearts and become true students of Quran.

Asalaam O Alaykum!

Sorry I haven’t posted for a while now, I’ve been super busy with school and an online English course I’ve taken, Alhumdullilah Ala’ Quli Haal (All praises are upon Allah in every state) .

So my favorite season is here! I love Autumn with all the crisp colors and the transition from greenery to fiery reds and oranges. SubhanAllah, it’s just amazing! Looking out the window I’m baffled by all the wonderful sights and sounds and I know this is only due to Allah (SWT)’s power and will.

The changing of seasons reminds me of our own life cycle; in spring the flowers bloom, in life a being comes into existence. As summer comes close, the person has reached the early stages of their life, living their youth to the best of their ability. Slowly as Autumn rolls in, the person starts showing signs of aging and less agility. Life is winding down and finally when the trees have shed their leaves and all signs of life are gone the person expires, b’ithnillah (with the permission of Allah). Sometimes a person does not even get to see all the seasons, a person can die in their early twenties or live to see a hundred, Allah knows best.

Weekend class

The reason why my blogging will be slow is due to the fact that I am an assistant teacher at Manar Al Islam classes for youth, which is held at Al Huda over the weekends. Yesterday was my first day with another sister teaching 8-9 year old boys. Might I add, they’re a quite a load to handle but Alhumdullilah very fun to teach!:) We covered the basics, talking about Allah and His attributes and group discussions, many of the kids were participating and had very good answers prepared.

With the Taleem Al Quran finishing in two months or so things are becoming very busy, which is why I will try to frequently update my blog but if I’m missing for a week or so, I’m likely studying for tests or doing poem critiques.

Speaking of poems, here’s a Haiku I would like to share which is quite deep:
